Pochettino: One man was fuming after Tottenham win v Brighton

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that Dele Alli was fuming after being named on the substitutes’ bench during the 2-0 win over Brighton on Wednesday.

Goals from Serge Aurier, his first for the club since signing from Paris Saint Germain, and Heung-min Son, secured the three points at Wembley, making it two wins from two after their thrashing of Stoke City over the weekend.

Pochettino had decided to rotate his squad against the Seagulls, making four changes to the starting XI which comprehensively beat the Potters, which included a first start in over a year for Argentinian attacker Erik Lamela.

However his inclusion saw 21-year-old Alli drop out of the first team line up, having to make do with a place on the bench, and Pochettino revealed after the game that the youngster was less than impressed that he was consigned to a 15 minute cameo.

The Argentine boss was quoted by football.london as saying: “Dele Alli was on the bench and then played 20 minutes. He’s not happy.

“He’s such an important player for us.

“How would another player react when they’re on the bench? Sure they’re not happy.

“Everyone on the bench. They all wanted to play.”

Alli has been a regular for Spurs in the Premier League this season, having missed just one match as a result of injury, but Wednesday was the first time that he had not been named among the starting XI when available.

He will be hoping to return to the line up for Saturday’s crunch clash against Manchester City, who are yet to taste defeat this campaign and have gone on a record breaking winning streak of 15 games.
