Michael Beale has ‘big opportunity’ in January after Rangers source’s new signing reveal – expert

Alan Hutton has claimed new Rangers boss Michael Beale has a “big opportunity” in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender urged the board to back the new manager in the transfer window in order to bridge the gap between them and Celtic.

The Light Blues are set to lose both Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent for free in the summer after failing to agree new contracts.

The pair’s contracts both expire in the summer and are free to negotiate with other clubs from January.

Speaking at the Rangers AGM, as relayed by Sky Sports (6 December), chairman Douglas Park said that the duo’s contract demands may be “unattainable”.

On 5 December sources told this site that Beale is plotting a January move for Fulham midfielder Josh Onomah.

The new boss considered signing the 25-year-old for Queens Park Rangers during the summer and is a long-term admirer of the player.

When asked if making new signings could encourage the likes of Morelos and Kent to commit to the club, Hutton told Football Insider:I think it definitely helps.

Rangers

For any player joining any team you want to be part of something. You want a vision and a plan moving forward and I think that is something Rangers have not really had this season.

It is a big opportunity for Beale to put his stamp on the squad. Hopefully in January he does get backed because he needs players through the door that can help bridge that gap that there is at the moment between Rangers and Celtic.
