Michael Owen predicts ‘fascinating’ West Ham v Arsenal cup clash

Michael Owen has backed Arsenal to just “edge” their clash with West Ham at the Emirates on Tuesday, despite expecting Arsene Wenger to rotate his team.

In his predictions for BetVictor, the pundit predicted the League Cup quarter final between the London sides, labeling it a “fascinating” and “cracking” derby.

“This is a fascinating London derby with Arsene Wenger likely to rotate his squad against a progressive West Ham side who will fancy their chances of causing a shock at the Emirates,” said Owen.

“The Gunners have already shown in the Europa League, however, that they have a deep squad; I think they can edge what promises to be a cracking London derby.”

The two sides recently met earlier this month in the league at the London Stadium, and couldn’t be separated, settling for a 0-0 draw.

Owen ahead of that game, had tipped West Ham to be the most likely winner due to their recent improvement in form.

The Hammers haven’t beaten Arsenal since 2015, with their last victory being a 2-0 win at the Emirates.

The Gunners have lost their last four meetings with fellow Premier League sides in the League Cup, and this includes last season when Southampton eliminated them.

If the Hammers are victorious it will be the second time they have reached the semi-finals of the competition in the last five season.

However, West Ham have only reached the last four of the contest once in the last 23 seasons.
