Michael Owen predicts Liverpool v Manchester City

By Dominic Toner

Michael Owen expects Liverpool to overcome Manchester City on Saturday in the Premier League.

The Merseyside club welcome Man City to Anfield for a highly anticipated clash as second meets third in the table.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will be in good confidence after winning their last three games and they are just six points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea.

Man City have also won their last three games after responding to a defeat against Leicester and are seven points adrift of Antonio Conte’s Chelsea.

Ex-Liverpool striker Owen tipped his former side to win on Saturday and feels home advantage will play a big role in the game.

“You have to go back to May 2003 for the last, and only, time City have beaten Liverpool at Anfield in the PL and I can’t see this current City side bucking that trend in what looks sure to be a wonderful game and occasion to mark the end of 2016,” Owen wrote in his BetVictor column.

Liverpool are regarded as serious title contenders this season and have benefited from having no European football this season.

The Reds are the Premier League’s top scorers with 45 goals in 18 games and have been showing the attacking philosophy of manager Klopp.

Liverpool will be without Philippe Coutinho and Joel Matip against Man City as they continue their recovery from injury, but have shown they have enough quality in their squad.

They will hope to finish 2016 in style and would set out a real statement to the rest of the league with a victory.

In other Liverpool news, Klopp has made a prediction ahead of the game against Man City.
