Michy Batshuayi could explode at Everton after latest - pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed Michy Batshuayi could be a “solid goalscorer” at Everton if he can find “consistency” under Frank Lampard.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted “there is a player” in the 28-year-old despite his inability to settle down at a club in recent years.

According to talkSPORT (2 August), Frank Lampard wants to bring Batshuayi to Everton on a permanent basis as he looks to replace departed star Richarlison.

The report claims the Belgium international is open to completing a Goodison Park move this summer.

Batshuayi, who has less than a year left on his Chelsea contract, scored 14 goals in 33 league games at Besiktas last season.

However, in his last Premier League season – a loan at Crystal Palace in 2020-21 – he managed just two strikes in 18 outings.

Whelan insisted there is “no doubt” that Everton need to bolster their striking ranks this summer.

“Batshuayi is another player who had a big hype about him but never hit those heights,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He hasn’t done as well as he probably should have done, and he’s been loaned out here, there, and everywhere as a result.

“Everton need another striker, there’s no doubt about it. It’s just whether Batshuayi can find that form which brought him to the Premier League in the first place.

“Everyone seems to want to keep taking a chance on him, and that’s because there is a player in there.

He could be a solid goalscorer, it’s just about finding that consistency and form in a side.”
