Mick McCarthy: This Leeds player is exceptional
By Danny Wright
Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy has hailed Leeds’ talismanic striker Chris Wood as one of the top players in the Championship.
The New Zealand international has scored 18 Championship goals this season and is second in the league’s goal scoring charts behind Dwight Gayle of Newcastle.
McCarthy was reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post as saying: “[Wood is] a really exceptional Championship striker. He’s proving why people were coveting his signature.”
With his goal scoring exploits helping Leeds to their biggest promotion campaign to return to the Premier Leage in years, Wood was named Championship player of the month for January.
With a goal in each league game of the month, the former West Bromwich Albion man scored six in four games to help Leeds firmly plant themselves inside the play-off places.

The 25-year-old has never gone more than three games without a goal in the league this campaign and has become a hit at Elland Road ever since signing from Leicester in 2015 for a fee of £3million.
Wood will be looking to help further aid Leeds’ promotion bid as they have two home games in the space of four days.
They take on Cardiff on Saturday before welcoming Bristol City to West Yorkshire.
McCarthy will have to quickly make up plans to stop Leeds’ rampant striker as his Ipswich side faces them next Saturday.
