Sources: Middlesbrough line up move for Luton Town star Ruddock amid contract latest

Middlesbrough are lining up a move for Luton Town midfielder Pelly Ruddock, Football Insider understands.

The versatile 27-year-old is out of contract at Kenilworth Road at the end of this month.

An industry source told Football Insider that Luton are still in talks about trying to keep hold of the big fans favourite but his contract has opened the door to suitors.

Boro are ready to offer a long-term contract to Ruddock, who was on the radar of West Brom, Norwich City and Swansea City in January.

Luton’s longest-serving player, Ruddock has turned out 295 times for the Hatters in eight seasons with the club.

In that time, he has played an integral role in three promotions, from the Conference to the Championship.

He featured 44 times for Nathan Jones’ impressive outfit in the second-tier in 2020-21, two points behind Boro.

The versatile midfielder joined from West Ham in November 2013, initially on loan before making the switch permanent in the January window.

He made one senior appearance during his time with the Hammers, playing the full 90 minutes as a centre-back in a 2-0 League Cup victory over Burnley in October 2013.

Though predominantly a midfield pivot, Ruddock has played in more conventional midfield roles as well as a winger on both flanks.

He earned his first international call-up in May when he was selected for DR Congo.

Ruddock made his debut in Congo’s 1-0 friendly defeat to Tunisia on 5 June and will be looking to make his second appearance when they face Mali on Friday.
