Massimiliano Allegri has ruled Blaise Matuidi out of Juventus’ upcoming Champions League clash with Tottenham after he limped out of Sunday’s huge win over Sassuolo.
France midfielder Matuidi picked up a muscular problem and was withdrawn in the 26th minute of the emphatic 7-0 victory at Allianz Stadium.
Allegri confirmed the 30-year-old mainstay will be forced to miss the first-leg visit of Spurs for the match at Juventus Stadium on 13 February, for which Paulo Dybala is also a doubt.
Speaking in the aftermath of the win against Sassulo, Allegri said to Mediaset Premium, as quoted by the Football Italia website: “Matuidi won’t be there against Tottenham. I think it is a muscular problem.”
Matuidi, who has been capped 62 times by France, has been a key player for Juventus this season, making 32 appearances in all competitions.
He joined last summer from Paris Saint-Germain, where he had scored 33 times and provided 30 assists from 295 appearances in all competitions.
Juventus’ Sunday triumph took them to the top of the Serie A table, where they are two points clear of second-placed Napoli.
