'We might be 2-0 down' - Compper issues warning about Celtic clash v Rangers
Marvin Compper has warned his Celtic team-mates to get off to a fast start against Rangers in the upcoming Old Firm derby or face defeat.
The 32-year-old, who made his long-awaited Hoops debut in the 3-0 Scottish Cup victory over Morton, felt that the Hoops could have played better in the first-half against the Championship side.
“It is going to be very intense. We need to be ready from the first minute,” the German centre-back said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“We cannot start like today or we might be 2-0 down.
“I enjoy a battle, these are the competitions where a player can show what he’s made of.”
The Hoops found it difficult to create chances in the first-half against Morton, but they eventually prevailed thanks to three second-half goals, with Moussa Dembele grabbing two and Odsonne Edouard scoring the other.

Football Insider verdict
Compper is correct of course, the Hoops will have to be well up for the Old Firm derby, and you have got to imagine that they will be. The derby will be a far more urgent encounter than a home cup tie against a Championship side, and Brendan Rodgers will have his team up for the match accordingly. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Compper started the derby, as the Hoops boss must have faith in his abilities after picking the player against Morton, even though he had been out with an injury for over a month. The match will no doubt be a baptism of fire for Compper, but Rodgers will be confident that a player who has played in the Bundesliga and Serie A will be able to handle the Old Firm derby.
