Mills issues 'huge' Aston Villa claim after major development

Steven Gerrard will have a “massive mix of emotions” when he takes his Aston Villa side to Liverpool this weekend, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and England defender insisted the Anfield crowd will give their returning hero a “magnificent” reception.

Aston Villa go into the game having won three of the four games under Gerrard.

As quoted by Birmingham Live today (10 December), Gerrard insisted his “only main focus” was trying to take three points from the fixture.

“He will try and play it down but it will be a huge emotional occasion for Steven Gerrard,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’s going back to the club where he’s an absolute legend with all the things that he won.

“It will be a huge, massive mix of emotions because he is Liverpool. Over the last 15, 20 years, he has been Liverpool. All the good things that happened at Liverpool ever since he made his debut up until he left were really down to Steven Gerrard.

“The crowd will undoubtedly give him a magnificent reception, Liverpool fans are very good in that way and very understanding.

“There will be a part of him that is desperate to win and beat not just Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp. So he can really prove himself as an up and coming manager.”

Gerrard spent 17 years as a Liverpool player and won eight major trophies.

After hanging up his boots, he returned to the club as a youth team coach before taking the top job at Rangers in 2018.
