Mills: Liverpool keeping close tabs on Leeds star after Henderson reveal
Danny Mills has claimed Liverpool will be closely monitoring Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips as a potential Jordan Henderson replacement.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender suggested Phillips’ performances at the European Championship will mean he is “attracting a lot more attention”.
The Athletic‘s James Pearce and David Ornstein reported on 19 July Liverpool have not made any progress with Henderson over negotiating a new contract.
His current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2023 when the Reds captain will be 33.
Phillips was selected over Henderson by Gareth Southgate at the Euros after Henderson missed the final months of the season with an injury.
The 25-year-old impressed with a string of good performances as he started every game as England reached the final.

Asked whether Liverpool could see Phillips as a potential Henderson replacement, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Yes, Kalvin Phillips will be on their radar, as well as everybody’s.
“He’s now gone from a good Premier League player to an international class player. That puts him in a whole new bracket of admiration.
“A lot of people will be watching him week in, week out. Whether they can afford him and whether he wants to leave is completely different.
“He will now be attracting a lot more attention than he previously was.”
Phillips made his England debut last August before playing in the Premier League.
He now has 15 international caps under his belt and is a firmly established member of Southgate’s squad.
