Mills: Newcastle handed 'huge' boost after 'worst' news for Tottenham confirmed

A sell-out St. James’ Park will give Newcastle United a “huge” boost over Tottenham this weekend, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender claimed the game is the “worst fixture ever” for Tottenham after Newcastle’s takeover was confirmed this week.

The PiF-led consortium confirmed they had acquired the club on October 7 and Newcastle revealed the next day Sunday’s game was sold out.

It will be the first time since May 2019 – a 3-2 loss to Liverpool – that Newcastle have sold out St. James’ Park.

“It’s the worst fixture ever for Tottenham, Newcastle is going to be absolutely bouncing,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“The atmosphere will be ridiculous. I think it sold out almost immediately [after the takeover was confirmed].

“Mike Ashley’s gone which is the big thing, they might not be happy with Steve Bruce still.

“The players should get a buzz, the crowd will be absolutely buzzing.

“It’s certainly will not be the easiest place to go and Nuno will have to make his players aware of that. ‘Look, you’ve got to weather the storm. The first 10, 15 minutes is going to be helter-skelter, they’re going to be at it and will try and impress. You’re going to have to make sure you’re at it.’

“I wouldn’t put Newcastle down as favourites because they’re still not that good but the atmosphere will make a huge difference.”

This weekend’s Premier League fixture will also be Steve Bruce’s 1,000th game in management.

The 60-year-old will have overseen 97 games across all competitions in charge of his boyhood club.

In other news, Newcastle United could “definitely” re-sign a Champions League winner after a major reveal.
