Mills predicts Leeds rising star for first-XI promotion after Hay reveal
Danny Mills has insisted Leeds United do not need to sign another left-back this summer – and could promote a rising star instead.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender claimed the club may sign a new left-back in January if the situation changes.
Leeds’ only major summer signing so far is the addition of Junior Firpo from Barcelona.
He has replaced Ezgjan Alioski, who the club have confirmed will not be extending his stay at Elland Road.
Phil Hay of the Athletic reported on 16 July that the Yorkshire giants are not actively pursuing a second-choice left-back.
That means Firpo will be Marcelo Bielsa’s only natural left-sided defender next season.

“I’m sure they’ve got young players in the academy coming through the system,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“We’ve also seen that Bielsa is quite happy for other players to fill in. That’s not a real issue.
“I’m pretty sure they will be well prepared for that. He may have to use someone as supplementary for a period of time.
“If you get to January and there’s a long-term injury and there’s something serious, you may have to address the situation.”
Young defender Leif Davis could be an option for Bielsa next term after he featured in two Premier League games last season.
However, Football Insider revealed on 15 July that Championship club Bournemouth are in advanced talks to sign the 21-year-old on loan.
Midfielder and player of the year Stuart Dallas can also fill in at left-back and did so on numerous occasions last season.
