Mills issues five-word Firpo claim after embarrassing Leeds reveal
Danny Mills has claimed Junior Firpo “has not been on form” for Leeds United at the beginning of the season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender insisted Leeds’ performances this season belie their lowly position in the Premier League table.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side climbed out of the relegation places with a 1-0 win over Watford just before the international break.
Firpo earned his sixth start of the season at Elland Road, he has only missed one game due to coronavirus.
According to the stats website WhoScored, his 6.29 rating for the season is the lowest of any Leeds star to play at least half of the minutes this term.
“He’s not been on form,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

He added: “But Firpo’s is a decent player, he’s got quality. Maybe he wasn’t quite ready at the beginning of the season. It’s not like his performances have been poor, they’ve been satisfactory.
“It’s a bit like the team. The performances have been OK without getting the results.
“They could be sat here with the exact same performances from the likes of Firpo with another eight points on the board. You would then say ‘That’s a fantastic start to the season’.
“Sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture. If you keep performing well, the results will come.”
Firpo moved to Elland Road from cash-strapped Barcelona over the summer for a reported £12.8million fee.
The 25-year-old signed a four-year deal with the Yorkshire giants that is set to expire in the summer of 2025.
