Mills: Tanganga can be 'incredible' for Tottenham after U-turn

Japhet Tanganga has the potential to be an “incredible” player for Tottenham, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England full-back insisted the defender needs to prove his quality week in, week out.

As reported by Football Insider on 16 August, Nuno Espirito Santo has changed his mind on loaning out Tanganga.

He put in a man of the match performance against Manchester City last weekend and Nuno wants him to stay in north London as a result.

“He’s clearly a talented player,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’s got a lot of ability and we’ve seen glimpses of that before.

“But as all young players know, they need a run of games and be consistent.

“In the first game of the season, you’re pumped high with adrenaline, enthusiasm, fitness, all these types of things.

“Can he do it for 15 games in a row? Can he do it for a full season where he hast that quality week in, week out? It’s not easy. This is why young players dip in and out of form. They don’t have the experience. Every situation is almost a new experience, week in, week out.

“Undoubtedly he’s a very talented player and he may go on and be incredibly successful. But he may go on and be in and out of the team for the next six months.”

Tanganga has now played 25 times across all competitions for Spurs.

The 22-year-old is under contract in north London until the summer of 2025.

In other news, a Tottenham favourite has told the club he wants to follow Kane out & quit by 31 August.
