Mills tells Tottenham to complete No 10 signing after source reveals update today
Tottenham should recruit a top-class number 10 to play alongside Harry Kane rather than a new striker.
That is the view of ex-England and Premier League defender Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as Spurs reportedly eye Southampton contract rebel Danny Ings.
The Telegraph reported on 13 July that Nuno Espirito Santo wants Ings to play alongside Kane in a new-look Spurs front two.
Football Insider revealed on the same day Manchester City have also registered their interest in Ings and a source has updated to tell this site they are closely monitoring the striker’s situation.
The 28-year-old has just 12 months left to run on his Saints contract and is yet to agree an extension.
“I think you start to detract from Harry Kane if you start to look at him as playing him with another striker,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“You’re best off doing it the other way round and bring in a number 10 to play alongside Harry Kane.
“It’s going to be a very interesting one to see what happens with Harry Kane. Is he going to be priced out of the market? That would be my biggest concern if I was Harry Kane. They are still talking £150million. It’s a lot of money and who can afford that?
“Man City are starting to go ‘Not sure, we’re prepared to pay this.’ What other clubs are going to want to pay that? Especially with Erling Haaland out there.”
Ings scored 12 times in 29 Premier League games for Southampton last season, including 26 starts.
He has 55 top-flight goals in 140 appearances across spells with Burnley, Liverpool and the Saints.
