Mills: Tottenham 'new signing' confirmed that will ease the pain of Kane quitting

Tottenham will still be able to attract top quality signings even if Harry Kane leaves after Heung-min Son signed a new contract.

That is the according to ex-Premier League and England full-back Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as Spurs tied the attacker down to a new deal.

Tottenham announced on 23 July Son had put pen to paper on a new contract running until the summer of 2025.

Football Insider first learned on 17 July the 29-year-old had agreed a new deal with the north London club.

This site broke the news on 2 July that the forward had told Nuno Espirito Santo he is looking forward to playing for him next term.

“In the current market, retaining players is almost good as bringing in a new signing, it’s like a new signing,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“If Kane is to go, Son is likely to be the main guy, the poster boy. He’ll be doing all the photoshoots!

“He’s a lovely guy, a fantastic player and has got a great work ethic. He’s got everything you’d want from the modern-day professional.

“Tying him down means you can still attract players, even if Kane does go. ‘Ok, Kane wants to go we can’t stop him but we’re still going to keep hold of some quality players in this squad’.”

Son’s previous contract was set to expire in the summer of 2023.

The South Korea international has scored 107 times and provided 64 assists in 280 games across all competitions for Spurs.

In other news, Tottenham are in talks to sign a striker and offload a young forward in a swap deal.
