Former Arsenal and Scotland star and current Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas says he is expecting Wolverhampton Wanderers to come out as comfortable winners in the club’s FA Cup clash at home to Swansea City.
Despite the Championship side coming up against Premier League opposition, they have been named as favourites for the cup tie at Molineux, with the Swans sitting bottom of England’s top flight after a poor start to the season.
In stark contrast, Wolves have stormed to the top of the second tier table, with just three defeats to their name as they sit 12 points adrift of second placed Derby County after 26 games.
As a result of the clubs’ varying fortunes, Nicholas has boldly stated he is expecting Nuno’s men to pull off a convincing win over the visitors, led by new boss Carlos Carvalhal.
Predicting a 2-0 win for the home side, he wrote on Sky Sports’ website: “I’m not surprised Wolves are favourites here. Carlos Carvalhal doesn’t really know his players and he’s been brought in with the directive of fighting relegation, so I would expect him to mix things up.
Wolves have got bags of goals in them and are that far clear in the Sky Bet Championship that they can have a real go here, so I’m backing them to win this one comfortably.”
Swansea come into the clash off the back of a 2-0 defeat at home to Tottenham, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the table, a result which followed a 2-1 victory over Watford in Carvalhal’s first game in charge.
Wolves meanwhile were dominant in their 3-0 home win over Brentford on Tuesday, with Ruben Neves, Barry Douglas and Diogo Jota all scoring.
In other Wolves news, this goalscoring colossus has jetted in for a medical at Molineux.
