Mkhitaryan reveals why he wanted January move to Arsenal
Arsenal newboy Henrikh Mkhitaryan has moved to deny allegations that he did not want to join the club, amidst rumours he had no choice in the matter.
Speaking to ESPN Brasil, the former Manchester United man stated that he needed a new challenge after a frustrating time in Manchester and he wanted to learn from Arsene Wenger.
“Of course sometimes you need some refreshing, and I think this was the best moment for me, because there were a few things that didn’t work out in Manchester.
“I wanted to play more, because I know that in a few years time I’ll be able to end my football career, and it’s very important for me to make my name bigger.”
The Armenian made a fast start to his Arsenal career, tallying a hat-trick of assists on his first start at the Emirates, as the Gunners disposed of Everton 5-1.
The opportunities are already more frequent for Mkhitaryan in London, having featured in three games already since his January switch.
There had been rumours surfacing on social media that the former Dortmund star had no choice in the transfer, that saw Alexis Sanchez move in the other direction.
However, Mkhitaryan insists that this is not true, and that he decided to move to Arsenal to work with Arsene Wenger.
“I’ve learned a lot from my previous two managers, Klopp and Mourinho, and I want to learn more from Arsene Wenger as well.
“Of course from the time being here I’ve learned a lot already, and I want to learn more.”
Mkhitaryan’s next chance to impress in an Arsenal shirt could be this coming Thursday, as the Gunners travel to face Ostersund in the Europa League.
