Monk latest squad could spell the end of two Leeds careers

By Alex Stevens

The Leeds careers of senior duo Luke Murphy and Toumani Diagouraga appear to be over after they were once again overlooked by Garry Monk on Tuesday night.

Monk, 37, named an unchanged team for the Championship clash against Bristol City at Ashton Gate as his side seeks a fifth consecutive win in all competitions.

Leeds are without central midfield duo Liam Bridcutt and Ronaldo Vieira for a second consecutive match and neither are in the matchday squad against Lee Johnson’s side.

However, Murphy and Diagouraga still failed to make Leeds’ 18-man squad, which could signify the end of their careers at Yorkshire.

Leeds revealed the team news on their official Twitter account earlier this evening, as they named the starting XI that beat Ipswich 1-0 on Saturday.

Midfield duo Murphy and Diagouraga have made just one appearance each this season, with former Brentford man Diagouraga failing to feature for Leeds since the 3-0 defeat to QPR.

Murphy has featured just once against Luton Town in the first round of the League Cup.

The pair have been rumoured to leave Leeds all summer, with HITC claiming that Murphy and Diagouraga had been told they could leave Elland Road towards the end of the summer.

With Bridcutt, Vieira, Eunan O’Kane, Kalvin Phillips and Matt Grimes all considered above the out-of-favour duo in the central midfield pecking order, they could be set to leave in January.

In other Leeds team news, the club have suffered a blow as a senior star has been ruled out for another three weeks.
