Monk identifies what Leeds must do to secure play-off spot

By Will Butcher

Garry Monk believes his Leeds side must win all three remaining fixtures if they are to gain a spot in the Championship play-offs.

The Yorkshire giants dropped out of the top six for the first time in five months on Saturday after losing to Wolves 1-0 at Elland Road, as Nouha Dicko struck in the first half.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash against Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium, Monk claimed Leeds must win all three Championship fixtures if they are to regain their top-six slot.

“We are of the mindset now that we have to go and win the three games,” Monk said, as quoted by Leeds’ official Twitter account.

“It is simple, if we win the three games, we have a place in the play-offs. It isn’t going to be easy to win all three, but it is something we believe we can achieve.”

Leeds still have to play Burton, Norwich and Wigan, as they remain on level points with sixth placed Fulham following Saturday’s round of fixtures.

They could be encouraged by Fulham’s difficult run-in, who still have to play Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday as well as Brentford away from home.

The Whites will be hoping for a repeat of their last time that they faced Burton, as goals from Chris Wood and Souleymane Doukara secured a 2-0 win back in October at Elland Road.

Three points could see Leeds climb to fifth in the table, if Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday drop points.
