Morelos fell out with Gerrard but will explode under Van Bronckhorst after Rangers reveal – pundit
Danny Mills has tipped Alfredo Morelos to explode under Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League and England defender suggested Morelos may have had a fractured relationship with Steven Gerrard towards the end of his time at Ibrox.
The striker scored both goals in Rangers’ 2-0 win over Sparta Prague – Van Bronckhorst’s first official game in charge.
It takes the 25-year-old’s tally for the season up to nine in 22 games across all competitions.
Van Bronckhorst claimed he wanted the Colombian to stay in the box against Sparta Prague.
As quoted by the Guardian last month (October 20), former boss Gerrard insisted Morelos had not been at his best.
He had scored five goals in 15 appearances at the time and was one away from his 100th goal in all competitions for the Gers.
“You always get that new manager bounce effect,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley
“Maybe Giovanni van Bronckhorst is going to play in a slightly different way which is more suited to the way Morelos wants to play.
“Players want to impress the new manager. If they’ve got a little bit of grievance with the previous manager, you’re going to try a little bit harder with the new manager. It’s a fresh start.”

Morelos has scored 103 goals in 204 games across all competitions for Rangers and is the club’s record scorer in European competitions.
He is under contract at Ibrox until the summer of 2023.
In other news, Alex McLeish has revealed what he’s ‘hearing’ from his Rangers sources about training under Van Bronckhorst.
