‘Morgan Gibbs-White to stay at Nottingham Forest with Champions League football’

Nottingham Forest supporters have been given new hope over keeping Morgan Gibbs-White despite several links with a summer exit.

The 25-year-old has been in sensational form at the City Ground this season, notching seven goals and eight assists in 37 appearances as the Reds remain on the brink of Champions League qualification.

Nuno Espirito Santo, who Forest want to sign a new deal, has led his side to seventh in the Premier League table, though a win against Chelsea on Sunday, 25 May, would be an incredible end to the campaign.

The playmaker’s performances have seen him gain interest from Man City, though, Football Insider now understands that Arsenal have joined the race to sign Gibbs-White this summer.

Despite several links with moves away, Tim Sherwood believes that the Reds will be able to keep hold of the star midfielder should they qualify for Champions League football against Chelsea at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest need Champions League qualification v Chelsea

Speaking live on Sky Sports Soccer Special (25 May, 2:17pm), Sherwood said: “If you look at Nottingham Forest, Morgan Gibbs-White has had the season of his life.

“And I think that there’s a lot of interest in him. I think if they qualify for the Champions League, he might give them another season.

“If not, I think he might be looking to play in the Champions League, in one of the big teams, because there’ll be a lot of interest in him.”

Nuno Espirito Santo future also on the line at the City Ground

Football Insider verdict

Fresh rumours have circulated over Espirito Santo’s future at the City Ground, especially after the full-time clash with Evangelos Marinakis over the medical treatment of Taiwo Awoniyi.

Losing out on Champions League football, which would likely mean losing Gibbs-White, could seal the manager’s exit, or at least many believe so, looking at the length of his spells at former clubs.

Ola Aina, Murillo, and Anthony Elanga have all been linked with exits as well, just proving how incredible a season the Reds have experienced so far, with just one final hurdle remaining at the City Ground.

Playing Europa Conference League would, by no means, be a failure, but after sitting third in the Premier League table for much of the campaign, many supporters will be disappointed if that is to happen.

Enzo Maresca‘s Chelsea are a very difficult prospect, though it entirely depends on which team decides to turn up to face the Reds on Sunday. There is a lot riding on the final day of the season.
