Gibbs-White’s new Nottingham Forest deal ‘contains release clause’
Morgan Gibbs-White will have secured a tidy pay rise from his new deal at Nottingham Forest but it will also contain a release clause.
That is according to football finance expert Dan Plumley, who told Football Insider exclusively that the exit clause will be a “fairly decent one”.
The midfielder’s seemingly simple move to North London to join Spurs quickly became one of the biggest debacles this summer.
Tottenham triggered Gibbs-White’s £60million release clause and had a medical planned for the very next day.
But rather than accept the fact that their midfielder’s buy-out clause had been triggered and there was little that could be done, Forest went on the offensive.
The Tricky Trees claimed Tottenham had obtained knowledge of Gibbs-White’s exit clause illegally and the deal fell flat.

Gibbs-White then surprisingly renewed his contract with Nottingham Forest, foregoing a move to join the Europa League champions.
And Plumley told Football Insider exclusively that his new deal will contain an exit clause: “I’d be surprised if there’s not a release clause in there, and a fairly decent one. It also might mean a bit of a pay increase.
“I think there’s the other layer to that, that actually, the way this played out, it didn’t look great for Gibbs-White or his agent.
“We know how the Nottingham Forest owner [Evangelos Marinakis] deals with these kind of situations. I think there’s there’s a lot of things wrapped up in there, but I certainly think there’ll be a decent release clause in his contract.”
Gibbs-White to reconsider Nottingham Forest exit
This summer has proven that a release clause does not guarantee an exit, but the England midfielder will presumably be better equipped to find a way out of his club if he desires in the future.
Matt Le Tissier told Football Insider exclusively that Gibbs-White may reconsider his future at Nottingham Forest in January.
Heading into a World Cup year, the former England international suggests that if the Tricky Trees are performing below the standards they set last year, the ex-Wolves man could look to leave.
Gibbs-White has been on the fringes of Thomas Tuchel’s squad and the German manager has shown a preference for picking players from the Premier League’s top-end teams.
