Jose Mourinho is more determined than ever to sign Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, according to a report.
The Sun claims the Manchester United boss has not been put off by the Belgian’s £100million price tag and is determined to sign him this summer.
It is said that if United beat Ajax in the Europa League final on Wednesday to secure Champions League football for next season, Mourinho will be the first to move for the 23-year-old.
Lukaku still has two years left on his contract at Goodison Park, and rejected a £120,000-a-week offer earlier this season.
However Mourinho’s plans may be scuppered by Lukaku himself, who according to the report, would prefer a move to his former club, Chelsea.
This comes after the Liverpool Echo reported that Ronald Koeman had placed an asking price of £100million on the 58-time Belgium international in a bid to stave off interest from Chelsea and United.
Lukaku has been in superb form this season, scoring 24 goals in 36 Premier League games.
Football Insider verdict
The admission that Mourinho is more determined than ever to sign Lukaku will come as no surprise to Everton, who have been preparing themselves for mammoth bids for a while now. However one positive is that it could drive his price even higher than the £100million asking fee, because Chelsea will have to match and better any offer made by United if they are to get their man. The Belgium would be a huge loss to any side, but none more so than Everton who have grown reliant on his goals, but the £100million+ fee would give them plenty of cash to find replacements with.
