Highly rated Celtic youngster facing most important week of his short career

COMMENT
Celtic centre-back Kristoffer Ajer has had plenty of praise since breaking into the Hoops first-team in December, when the 19-year-old Norwegian took the place of Jozo Simunovic in the Bhoys first-team following the 4-0 loss to Hearts.
Ajer had progressed almost serenely through matches, but the upcoming fixtures Celtic have could have a big impact on Ajer’s progress, and will be the most important week of his fledgling career.
Firstly, he will be playing in a new centre-back partnership with Jozo Simunovic against Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup.
Normally Ajer has played with Dedryck Boyata, but as his regular defensive counterpart is injured he will be playing alongside the Bosnian centre-back for the first time.
Secondly, Ajer is set to make his European debut for the Hoops against Zenit in the last 32 Europa League clash on Thursday.
This will be a huge test for the 19-year-old, to see how he can cope playing against players that are a higher level of quality above the opposition he normally faces.
Brendan Rodgers is obviously a fan of the player, and he will have no doubts that the youngster will be able to handle the pressure of playing in both matches.
If Ajer is able to perform well in both matches, it will be just the latest step in what looks to be a long and successful career.
