Murillo, Ola Aina and Ryan Yates respond as Nottingham Forest player exit confirmed

Nottingham Forest players were quick to react following confirmation that a teammate had officially left the club ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Nottingham Forest are gearing up for their long-awaited return to European football after finishing seventh last term, returning for the first time in 29 years.

It remains to be seen whether they’ll compete in the Europa League or the Europa Conference League, with Crystal Palace having appealed UEFA’s decision to demote them to the third-tier competition due to multi-club ownership concerns.

Despite the uncertainty, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have pressed on with their summer business, as Forest have secured signings such as Dan Ndoye and Igor Jesus to bolster the squad.

However, as part of the shake-up, there have also been several departures, and it didn’t take long for current players to show their support and well wishes after one exit was made official.

Matt Turner completes Lyon move and loan switch to New England

It was confirmed on 1 August that goalkeeper Matt Turner has officially completed a permanent move to Olympique Lyon, before being immediately loaned out to MLS side New England Revolution.

Forest announced the transfer on their official Instagram account, prompting Turner to comment: “All the best in Europe! Thanks for everything.”

His former Nottingham Forest teammates including Murillo, Ola Aina, Ryan Yates and Jota Silva all showed their support by liking the post.

Lyon had reportedly attempted to cancel Turner’s deal last month due to financial complications, but risked a fine if the agreement wasn’t fulfilled. The French club have now paid £6.9 million for the 31-year-old, who has 52 caps for the United States.

The American joined Forest from Arsenal in August 2023 and made 21 appearances in all competitions, before losing his place as first-choice goalkeeper to Matz Sels. After a brief loan spell at Crystal Palace last season, he now returns to his home country in another temporary switch.

Nottingham Forest hold strong on Murillo amid interest

While Turner departs on a permanent basis, another player attracting significant interest is centre-back Murillo.

The Brazilian defender has emerged as a top target for the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea, but Nottingham Forest remain determined to keep hold of Murillo this summer, and will reportedly reject any offers.

Having signed a new contract in January, Murillo is tied down long-term with Forest, giving them a strong position in negotiations should any serious bids arrive.
