Murillo reacts to Chris Wood announcement at Nottingham Forest

Murillo has reacted to the latest announcement concerning Chris Wood emerging from Nottingham Forest this season.

It has been an incredible campaign for all involved at the City Ground, with Champions League qualification still mathematically possible heading into the final two games of the season.

With 20 goals and three assists in the Premier League, Wood has played an integral part in the Reds’ 2024/25 season, and so too have Morgan Gibbs-White, Anthony Elanga, and Mats Selz.

Mick Brown told Football Insider that Forest are trying everything to tie Nuno Espirito Santo down to a new deal, and understandably so after leading the club to European football this term.

Now, the manager’s striker has been involved in a new announcement at the City Ground after the frustrating 2-2 draw with Leicester City, a game which prompted club owner Evangelos Marinakis to storm the pitch.

Chris Wood reaches new milestone at Nottingham Forest

Taking to Instagram (17 May), the official club account wrote: “Woody hit 100 Premier League goal contributions last weekend,” netting his 20th goal of the campaign at the City Ground.

Murillo liked the announcement, showing support for his goal-hungry teammate on social media.

Nuno Espirito Santo refuses to give up on Champions League football

Football Insider verdict

While Forest have dropped out of the top-five Premier League spots after just one victory in five league matches, the dream of qualifying for the Champions League is not yet over.

The Reds are just three points behind sixth-place Man City, who also have a game in hand over Chelsea and Aston Villa, and the battle is really heating up in the Premier League table.

Remaining matches against West Ham and Chelsea will be extremely difficult, even if Graham Potter‘s side are struggling for form, but Espirito Santo’s side will have the belief that they can do it.

Wood, Gibbs-White, and Elanga will all need to be at their very best, and so too will the central defenders, with Callum Hudson-Odoi a doubt for the remaining two fixtures.

Without Champions League football, Forest run the risk of losing Gibbs-White, with a number of players being linked with moves to rival Premier League clubs, but that will be a worry once the season finishes.
