Murillo reacts to Chris Wood’s ‘see you’ message after Nottingham Forest blow
Chris Wood took to social media to voice his pride despite Nottingham Forest narrowly missing out on Champions League football.
The Reds are the first team in Premier League history to finish outside the top five spots after being third in game week 26, experiencing an untimely drop in form in the race for European qualification.
Nuno Espirito Santo and Evangelos Marinakis clashed on the pitch following the 2-2 draw with Leicester City at the City Ground, with the team winning just once in the final five matches of the season.
Despite the disappointment, Forest are set to compete in Europe next season, albeit in the Europa Conference League, condemned to the competition after the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday, 25 May.
Chris Wood positive despite missing out on Champions League football
Taking to Instagram (27 May), Wood wrote: “Had a couple of days to reflect and I couldn’t be prouder of our effort this season,” as he spoke out about Forest’s 2024/25 campaign.
“From where we were a year ago to now shows how hard we worked, and what can be done when we really come together. Europe awaits, but we still want more! See you soon, Reds.”
Ryan Yates commented: “What a season,” while teammates Murillio, Ola Aina, and Neco Williams were joined by Newcastle United pair Jacob Murphy and Kieran Trippier in liking the post.
Nuno Espirito Santo to push for more at Nottingham Forest
Football Insider verdict
Espirito Santo has quickly become a much-loved figure at the City Ground since taking charge in December 2023, but his future has come under pressure in recent weeks.
Missing out on Champions League football is a huge blow for the Reds, especially given their standing in the Premier League table for much of the season, but there is plenty more to achieve next term.
Manager | Games | Won | Drawn | Lost | Win % |
Nuno Espirito Santo | 70 | 31 | 14 | 25 | 44 |
He boasts a higher win percentage than Steve Cooper, who won promotion back to the Premier League in 2021/22, Chris Hughton, and Martin O’Neill, and he will be hoping to better than record next season.
The Portuguese figure faces an uphill battle this summer, however, with Football Insider understanding that Arsenal want to beat Man City to the signing of Morgan Gibbs-White, who is expected to leave.
It will be an incredibly difficult task to replace the England international, and with Murillo, Aina and Anthony Elanga also linked with exits, the manager will need extensive backing in the market.
