Murillo reacts to Nottingham Forest’s Nuno announcement after Marinakis clash

Nottingham Forest’s latest announcement around manager Nuno Espirito Santo has caught the attention of star defender Murillo on social media.

The Portuguese figure has been thrown into the spotlight more than usual recently after being spotted in a heated on-pitch altercation with club owner Evangelos Marinakis following a draw against Leicester City.

While the single point secured European qualification at the City Ground ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, an incredible achievement by the Reds, it was another blow in the quest for Champions League football.

Despite that, Mick Brown told Football Insider that Forest are trying everything to tie down Espirito Santo to a new deal, with the 51-year-old quickly becoming a much-loved figure at the stadium.

Now, the former Tottenham and Wolves figure is being recognised for his achievements with the Reds this season, even after a drop in form, which has left some supporters disappointed.

Premier League award on the cards for Nuno Espirito Santo

Taking to Instagram (15 May), the official club account wrote: “Nuno has been shortlisted for the Premier League Manager of the Season award,” with the post gaining a like from defensive star, Murillo.

Champions League football still possible for Nottingham Forest

Football Insider verdict

Forest are just one point outside the top-five spots in the Premier League with two matches left to play against West Ham and Chelsea, a rival club also aiming for Champions League qualification.

With Man City facing Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on Saturday, 17 May, there is yet another twist in the club’s season, as Pep Guardiola‘s side winning would free up another space in the Europa League.

Of course, some supporters are still bound to be disappointed with that, even if the Europa Conference League is avoided, with the belief that Morgan Gibbs-White could join Man City without the Champions League.

However, after such an incredible league campaign, it is only normal for other European clubs to come knocking at the door of the City Ground for the talent which helped get Forest this far.

Espirito Santo is clearly building something far bigger with the Reds, and if he is allowed a more expensive summer transfer window, there is no reason why he cannot take this team further.
