Murillo responds passionately as transfer confirmed at Nottingham Forest

Murillo reacted on social media as Nottingham Forest announced their latest transfer business at the City Ground this summer.

An entire transfer saga has emerged around Morgan Gibbs-White’s surprise move to Tottenham, with the deal now in limbo after the Reds complained to the Premier League of “illegal” moves.

This comes after Anthony Elanga’s £55million move to Newcastle United [The Telegraph], with the Sweden international proving the club with £40m profit over two years since arriving from Man United.

Many supporters expected Nuno Espirito Santo to strengthen his squad after securing European football, but the exact opposite appears to be happening so far.

While fans are upset with recent transfer updates, positive news has now been announced, with another player joining Igor Jesus at the City Ground ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Nottingham Forest announce Jair Cunha

Taking to Instagram (11 July), the official club account wrote: “Welcome to Nottingham Forest, Jair Cunha!”, with Murillo replying to the post with fire emojis.

The 20-year-old centre-back impressed at the Club World Cup before Botafogo bowed out of the tournament to Palmeiras, earning his move after just 22 appearances for the Brazilian giants.

Morgan Gibbs-White to follow Anthony Elanga this summer

Football Insider verdict

While a move to North London looks to have fallen through quite spectacularly, the player is unlikely to be with Forest when the 2025/26 season kicks off.

Football Insider understood on Wednesday, 9 July, that Man City had agreed terms with Gibbs-White, and while that no longer looks to be the case, it would be no surprise to see Pep Guardiola’s side re-enter the race.

Arsenal and Man United have also been credited with interest in the England international, so there is no shortage of options this summer, but it remains to be seen if they remain interested.

Forest could now shift their focus to James McAtee as a potential replacement, with the youngster unable to get a regular run of games under Guardiola’s leadership at the Etihad Stadium.

Football Insider understands that McAtee is planning to leave Man City permanently if the right deal comes in, though Crystal Palace, Fulham, and Newcastle United are also interested.

Johan Bakayoko and Harvey Elliott have also been linked with moves to the City Ground, so too has Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, and any of these players would bring much-needed talent to the squad.
