Murillo responds to Johan Bakayoko transfer update amid Nottingham Forest links

Murillo has reacted to the latest transfer news surrounding PSV Eindhoven star Johan Bakayoko amid links with a move to Nottingham Forest.

The 22-year-old has attracted interest from all over Europe, having notched 26 goals and 17 assists across the last two seasons, quickly becoming the Dutch side’s most important player.

After losing Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United in a £55million deal [BBC Sport], Football Insider understood that Forest had opened talks to sign Bakayoko as a replacement.

Nuno Espirito Santo is also at risk of losing Morgan Gibbs-White to Tottenham this summer, though any move to North London has stalled as the Reds weigh up taking legal action.

This all makes a move for Bakayoko all the more important at the City Ground, though a new transfer update from Fabrizio Romano appears to have thrown a spanner in the works.

Johan Bakayoko agrees PSV Eindhoven exit

Taking to Instagram (14 July), Fabrizio Romano wrote: “HERE WE GO! RB Leipzig agree a deal to sign Johan Bakayoko as a new winger from PSV.

“Leipzig have won the race with several clubs, now set to pay a €22million package and a long-term deal agreed with Johan. Medical tests due to follow later this week, as per Sky.”

Reacting to the transfer news, Murillo liked the post, though he is unlikely to be a fan of the move due to Forest missing out on a key target ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Football Insider verdict

While the likes of Matz Sels and Chris Wood are not going anywhere, with new deals for Neco Williams and Ola Aina, another key player could be about to join Elanga out of the exit doors.

Football Insider understands that Gibbs-White’s move to Tottenham was denied due to a swap deal for Man City’s James McAtee collapsing this summer.

The England international has long been linked with an exit from the City Ground, attracting plenty of attention from Premier League clubs after notching 18 goals and 26 assists across 118 appearances.

Espirito Santo appears to be planning for the worst, with deals already done for Botafogo duo Igor Jesus and Jair Cunha, adding much-needed reinforcements to the squad this summer.

Ramon Sosa has already agreed a deal to depart after just a single campaign in England, where he made just one Premier League start and recorded just four goal contributions.

Selling Gibbs-White would be a huge blow for the Reds, but with news emerging that the player is against signing a new deal, the club may have no other option but to cash in over the coming weeks.
