'Bit of a change' - Murty explains decision to axe senior Rangers star v Partick

Rangers manager Graeme Murty has explained his decision to axe Alfredo Morelos from his starting XI to face Partick Thistle – and revealed it was about “freshening things up” with the Gers facing a hectic schedule of games.
The Light Blues have already played four times since returning to action following the winter break with midweek games with the clash v Partick their fifth game in fortnight.
Murty’s side face at least another four games before the end of February – and could face one more if Ayr United force a replay when the sides meet in the Scottish Cup on Sunday.
Murty picked Jason Cummings ahead of the Colombian to face Thistle and revealed that he thought the “impetus” provided by Cummings would help his side at Firhill.
“It’s just freshening up,” Murty said in a video shared by the Gers’ official Twitter account.

“We’ve got lots of games coming up. We’re going to need to utilise the whole squad, so I thought a little bit of a change up front, little bit of pace, little bit of impetus provided by Jason would be a good thing.
“We’ve also got Alfredo on the bench, ready to go so it’s just a case of freshening things up.”
The Gers cruised past Thistle eventually after a slow start but goals from Josh Windass and James Tavernier eventually secured a 2-0 win for Murty’s side.
The result takes the Gers to three points behind second-placed Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.
Murty’s side could be much-changed when they line-up at Somerset Park on Sunday against the League One side with the Gers boss making six changes and giving a number of his fringe men some game-time when they faced Fraserburgh in the previous round.
