'I can't guarantee it' – Graeme Murty confirms Rangers talks with enforcer

Rangers manager Graeme Murty has given an update regarding the future of defender David Bates with the Ibrox club, during a pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
It has been suggested by the Daily Record that the promising young defender is a target for Championship side Sunderland.
The 21-year-old is out of contract this summer and the Gers risk bagging just a paltry five-figure fee for the player unless a deal can be agreed.
Bates though is keen to stay with the Gers but wants more game time – something which Murty said he could not guarantee – but revealed discussions are ongoing between the club and representatives of the player:

The youngster has started just twice in the SPL this season and made six appearances in all for the Light Blues.
With Russell Martin entering the fold in January from Norwich, Bates could see his game time limited all the more.
Murty also confirmed that Bates wasn’t in a unique position and that he was talking to all players whose contracts are up in the summer,
That includes Danny Wilson, Kenny Miller, and Niko Kranjcar too.
Football Insider verdict:
After his man-of-the-match performance in Rangers’ draw with Celtic in December, Bates showed what he is capable of for the Light Blues. The former Sterling and Raith enforcer is clearly ambitious and is not happy to simply sit on the sidelines. Now that Murty has openly said he cannot guarantee Bates more game time, it may force the defender’s hand and also the club’s too as they will not want to lose him for nothing. There’s just over one week to go before the transfer window closes and after featuring in just six games all season, it is clear that Murty does not value him as a key player and will let him go before the end of the month.
