Murty must axe faltering Rangers favourite and bring back utility man to guarantee success

When things have been going well for Rangers this season, they always manage to bring their fans back down to earth with a bump.

Their recent run of six wins on the bounce across all competitions was ended thanks to fierce rivals Celtic, who came out on top in a tense Old Firm derby at Ibrox, and there would have been a firm expectation to bounce back against Kilmarnock a week later.

Unfortunately for the Light Blues faithful, their side let them down again, suffering a shock 1-0 defeat at home and opening the door for Aberdeen to close the gap in the hunt for second.

There were a couple of Gers stars who were simply not at the races prior to the international break, and with a return to league action away to Motherwell on Saturday, Graeme Murty must be questioning who he can trust to get the desired result.

One man who has been a favourite of the Rangers boss but has demonstrated some faltering form has been January signing Sean Goss, the 22-year-old midfielder hooked at the half time break in the defeat to Killy.

The German-born star, on loan from QPR, made a bright start to his career at Ibrox but has let his performances slip, and it could be fatal in terms of his first team place after Ross McCrorie was reported to have returned to first team training after his injury layoff.

The 20-year-old has not been a threat to Goss until now, but after his impressive displays before the new year, and his injury blow, the versatile utility man, who can play at centre back or in midfield, must be eyeing up a return to the side.

Goss’ poor form must seem him axed for the time being and McCrorie brought back to get the pair both firing on all cylinders again, in a move which guarantees success for the club.

In other Rangers news, the club’s board “have been on their knees begging” 70-yr-old to take over as manager.
