‘I’m not surprised ‘ – Graeme Murty makes admission about desire of Rangers forward

Rangers manager Graeme Murty has admitted that he is “not surprised” forward Alfredo Morelos wants to be involved in every game despite not having had a prolonged break in a year.

The Colombian striker started the year with HJK Helsinki and was midway through their season when he joined the Gers in a £1million summer move.

Morelos ended up the seventh top goalscorer in Finland’s top division with 11 goals – despite leaving halfway through – and picked up a winner’s medal after HJK went on to wrap up the title.

Murty revealed that the 21-year-old just “wants to play” and joked that he can remember having such enthusiasm at a similar age.

“I’m not surprised he’s still going. He wants to play, he’s still only a young man, I’m sure most of us can remember what it is like to be that age,” Murty said, as quoted by the Evening Times.

“He just wants to get on the football pitch. While he is on a pitch and scoring, he’s a guy who enjoys that. The more we can give him that enjoyment, the better he’s going to feel.”

The Colombian youth international has scored 12 times in 24 appearances since signing for the Gers and is the Scottish Premiership’s top goal-scorer so far this term.

Morelos has scored four times in his last five appearances for Murty’s side and will be hoping to get on the scoresheet when the Gers take on their bitter rivals Celtic on Saturday in the second Old Firm clash of the season.

Morelos has a golden opportunity to score in the first clash between the sides this season but couldn’t steer the ball home before Celtic turned the screws and picked up a win over the Ibrox giants.
