Report: Tottenham close to mystery midfielder transfer, deal could be done for weekend debut
By Dominic Toner
Southend are keen on signing an unnamed Tottenham midfielder on loan, according to a report.
The Echo claim that the League One club invited a Spurs youngster train with them on Thursday and manager Phil Brown is hoping to wrap up a deal in time for Saturday’s game with Fleetwood.
The report details that Brown was not willing to reveal the player’s identity, but it is understood the player has represented England at junior level but is still waiting for his first senior Spurs appearance.
“There are still a few things to sort out but we’re hopeful of being able to get the deal one. He would definitely be a good signing for us,” said Brown, as quoted by the Echo.
Southend are currently seventh-placed in League One and are chasing a play-off spot this season.

Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are third in the Premier League and a number of young talents have left the squad on loan recently, including Connor Ogilvie and Anton Walkes.
The north London club are showing a strong desire to introduce young players to their first-team and a number of them have been forced to leave White Hart Lane to experience regular football.
Potential players from Spurs’ development squad that Brown could have been referring to are the likes of Luke Amos, Anthony Georgiou, Cy Goddard, Filip Lesniak or Charlie Owens.
Spurs face Wycombe in their next match in the FA Cup fourth-round and will be strong favourites to progress to the next round.
In other Tottenham transfer news, the club’s attacking duo are set to quit in the summer.
