‘Napoli can give Man United sale they need as Hojlund wants to join McTominay’
Napoli are interested in making a move for Man United striker Rasmus Hojlund this summer on a permanent deal, and the Dane wants the a move back to Italy.
United’s 2024/25 season could not have gone much worse, with Ruben Amorim unable to help them improve any following his appointment as manager last November.
The Red Devils ended the campaign in 16th position in the Premier League, which was their worst league finish since 1974, while they also lost the Europa League final to Tottenham in a drab affair in Bilbao.
Hojlund was unable to make much of a positive impact in his second season in Manchester, with just four goals scored in 34 league appearances after netting 10 in 30 league games in his debut campaign.
The striker was signed from Atalanta in 2023 for a fee of £72million [BBC], and has been Hojlund predicted to depart Old Trafford this summer by former chief scout Mick Brown, so an exit seems imminent as Amorim looks to freshen up his attacking options.

Napoli want to sign Hojlund on a permanent deal
Serie A champions Napoli have previously been linked with a move to sign Hojlund, with reports in May stating that United transfer chief Matt Hargreaves had flown out to Naples to discuss a swap deal for the Danish striker and Victor Osimhen, while Inter Milan are also plotting a move to capture him this summer according to The Telegraph.
New revelations around a potential move have now come to light, with Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that Napoli have enquired about the possibility of signing Hojlund and initial talks with his representatives have been “positive.”
The Danish international is believed to be attracted by the prospect of working with Antonio Conte and playing alongside the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Scott McTominay, who has been a revelation in Italy following his move from United last summer.
They also state that while Inter are plotting a loan deal with a £45m buy option for the 22-year-old, Napoli could become favourites to land him this summer because of the cash they are able to offer up-front following Kvicha Kvaratskelia’s £59m [TNT] move to PSG in January.
Napoli have also been targeting Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, as revealed by Football Insider, but Gazzetta’s report states that Hojlund could be their preferred signing due to his previous experience in Serie A.

Hojlund needs to leave Man United as soon as possible
Football Insider verdict
United’s 2024/25 campaign was one to remember for all the wrong reasons, as they finished 16th in the Premier League and were beaten in the Europa League final by fellow strugglers Tottenham.
Portuguese boss Amorim clearly has huge job on his hands to get the club back on track, but there is a feeling that they cannot get much worse, and letting Hojlund go makes sense as they aim to improve next season.
Matheus Cunha has recently joined United from Wolves, and his exploits in the last campaign were seriously impressive as he almost singlehandedly dragged the Molineux outfit away from relegation trouble, with Hojlund already likely to get much less game-time following his arrival.
Appearances | Goals | Assists |
36 | 17 | 6 |
United need goalscorers this summer, and the Brazilian international is guaranteed to find the net regularly if played in the right system, while Amorim could also complement his talents with another forward as Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo closes in on a move to the Red Devils, as revealed by Football Insider.
Hojlund clearly does not have much of a future at Old Trafford, and despite showing glimpses of the talent that saw the Red Devils shell out a sizeable fee for his services two years ago, a move back to Italy would make a lot of sense, as he is clearly valued by Serie A clubs and suits the league’s style.
