Nathan Patterson cited in bargain Tottenham transfer verdict after £12.6m update - pundit
Alex McLeish has suggested Tottenham could pull off something of a bargain by signing Djed Spence for around £12million from Middlesbrough.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland manager insisted the eight-figure fee would be a “very good deal” for the 21-year-old.
As reported by Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, Middlesbrough are looking for £10.1-12.6million (€12-15million) for Spence.
Spurs, Arsenal and Manchester City are reportedly among the wing-back’s suitors.
McLeish cited the £12million-plus Everton spent on Nathan Patterson as he suggested Spence could be another star in the making.
Asked if he thought the £12million price tag could be something of a bargain, McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It sounds like it.

“When you talk about those fees, you think that there was a young guy in Nathan Patterson who went from Rangers to Everton for £11-12million and there’s more to come.
“So you would think that is one of the very good deals that is going to happen between the Championship and the Premier League.
“That’s unless they can get to get to the Premier League themselves.
“Then they’re going to have a big windfall where they’ll be able to pay players more money. They would possibly be able to show their ambition.”
Spence has played a key role in Forest’s push for automatic promotion from the Championship this term.
He has contributed five assists and two goals in 36 league appearances.
Forest currently sit third in the table, while Spence’s parent club Middlesbrough are down in seventh.
