Neco Williams may have played last Liverpool game as latest deal agreed – pundit

Neco Williams may have played his last game for Liverpool, according to Noel Whelan.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League and England Under-21s striker claimed Liverpool’s deal for Calvin Ramsay could open the door for Williams to return to Fulham on a permanent basis.

Liverpool confirmed on Sunday (19 June) that Ramsay had signed from Aberdeen on a long-term deal for an undisclosed fee.

Williams, 21, spent the second half of the 2021-22 campaign on loan at Fulham as they won the Championship title.

A Fulham source told Football Insider last month (14 May) that they were keen to bring the Wales international, who is valued at £12million, back on a permanent basis.

This site reported earlier in the year (22 March) Williams would be keen to return if the Cottagers secured promotion.

“The writing’s on the wall,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“If Fulham can do a deal to get him back into the club, whether that be on loan, or permanent.

“He had a successful season there, he seemed to be settled, the manager seemed to enjoy his style of play.

“I think it makes sense because you’ve brought in the new player from Aberdeen. You’ve sometimes got to let players forge their career.

“Right now, Neco Williams in the Premier League after a successful season at Fulham, getting promoted that makes sense as well.

“I very much doubt Fulham would want to let a bright full-back, box-to-box player leave the club after impressing the manager and the fans.

“I’m sure that’s one they are trying to work on now Liverpool have got the player through the door. That makes it a little bit easier to get a deal done with Fulham.”

In other news, Kieran Maguire has issued a Liverpool ‘bidding war’ claim as a £130million-a-year deal is agreed.
