Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville believes that Jon Moss was correct to show Sadio Mane a red card in the first half of Liverpool’s 5-0 loss at Manchester City on Saturday.
Mane, 25, was shown a straight red card in a 37th minute flashpoint after he tried to beat City goalkeeper Ederson to the ball in a one-on-one situation.
Many would argue that the August player of the month was simply trying to win the ball, but Moss, and now it seems Neville, have disagreed with what appears to be the popular decision.
“Red card for me – good decision Jon Moss,” said Neville on his personal Twitter account on Saturday afternoon.
Mane has been in hot form for Liverpool during the opening weeks of the season and had scored in each of his three previous league appearances for the club prior to Saturday’s visit to the Etihad.
The ex-Southampton attacker was rewarded for his purple patch by being handed the August player of the month award, however it seems that he may be unable to play in domestic competitions until October with a potential three-game ban on his way.
Liverpool were already a goal down against the Citizens after Sergio Aguero put the hosts ahead in the 25th minute after a long-range ball from Kevin De Bruyne.
Gabriel Jesus’ brace and Leroy Sane’s double rounded off the win.
In other Liverpool news, the Reds are eyeing up a move for this explosive young attacker.
