Neville Southall has told Jordan Pickford to “go smash it” after his switch to Everton was confirmed on Thursday.

The 23-year-old became the most expensive goalkeeper in the history of British football following his move from Sunderland which could eventually cost the Toffees £30million.

The arrival of Ajax captain Davy Klaassen was also announced on Thursday, in what was a very busy day on Merseyside.

And now, Southall, who is one of the best goalkeepers to ever wear an Everton shirt, has taken to his personal Twitter account to show his support to Pickford.

“Good luck. Go smash it,” he said on Thursday night.

Despte potentially costing Everton £30million, Southall thinks that that his old club have made a bargain of a signing for a player of Pickford’s quality.

The goalkeeper is currently in Poland as the England Under-21 squad gear up for the European Championships.

His call-up to the squad has come off the back of an inspirational season with Sunderland, despite their relegation from the Premier League in 20th place.

Pickford kept five clean sheets in 33 appearances across all competition for the Black Cats but was hailed for helping to limit the blows suffered by his side with outstanding displays between the sticks.

Southall, 58, spent 17 years on the books at Goodison Park and won two First Division titles in the 1980s and two FA Cups.
