Neville told to 'have a day off' after 'incredible' Man United player criticism

Frank McAvennie can’t believe some pundits are blaming Ronaldo for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s shortcomings at Man United.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the attacker is keeping Solskjaer in the job.

Speaking on 14 October’s edition of The Overlap, Gary Neville claimed Ronaldo, 36, is causing ‘problems’ for Man United.

This was attributed to his lack of pressing in the final third, which Neville claims leaves the defence at a disadvantage.

Ronaldo scored a last-gasp equaliser to rescue a vital Champions League point against Atalanta on Tuesday.

This was his ninth goal since rejoining the Red Devils and, as such, McAvennie has been left baffled by his critics.

“Can you believe people have been blaming Ronaldo?” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“What a complete load. Where would Man United be without him? Seriously, it’s incredible.

“The boy is scoring for fun and people are blaming him because the defence is rubbish?

“Have a day off. It’s Ole. There is no plan there, no tactics. Ronaldo is the only reason he’s still in the job.

“Some people in the media are going to ridiculous lengths to save Ole.

“As I have said before, it’s a matter of when over his future. He will be gone soon enough.

“Blaming their only good player, what on earth?”

Man United face Man City in the first Manchester derby of the season on Saturday.
