Newcastle United are in the hunt to sign Hannover centre-forward Niclas Fullkrug in the summer transfer window, according to a report.
German newspaper BILD claims on their website that Watford, Leicester, Aston Villa, Fulham and Cardiff are also keeping close tabs on Fullkrug, 25, after impressing in the German top-flight this season.
The 6ft 2in colossus has been in stunning form this term, scoring 15 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions and he is currently the fifth-highest scorer in the Bundesliga.
It is understood that he would be worth £4.3million going into the summer, doubling his market value in his two years at Hannover.
Football Insider verdict
Fullkrug actually looks as though he could be someone that Newcastle sign up in the upcoming transfer window. Mike Ashley has given Rafa Benitez limited funds to work with in the Premier League, and as long as the controversial businessman stays at St James’ Park, fans can expect another frustrating summer. Fullkrug, at £4.3million, could be a decent signing. He would be cheap and has proved that this season he can score goals in top-flight football. Hannover are a bottom-half team in Germany so getting as many goals as he has done is quite impressive. Leicester and Watford would surely be able to beat Newcastle if it ended up being a bidding war for the German, but would they be able to promise first team football as much as the Magpies would? Benitez needs a new striker. Joselu and Dwight Gayle are really not good enough so it has to be a priority in the coming months.
In other Newcastle United news, the Magpies are in pole position to sign this 6ft 7in colossus who has snubbed Real Madrid and Man United.
