Newcastle United and Everton are set for a transfer scrap over Angers forward Karl Toko Ekambi in the summer transfer window, according to a report.
The Sun claims that Ligue 1 side Angers are willing to cash in on Ekambi, 25, in the coming months with Newcastle and Everton plotting swoops worth £20million for the Cameroon international.
It is understood that Brighton are also interested in the prolific striker, who has torn apart the French top-flight this season with 17 goals in 34 Ligue 1 appearances.
Ekambi has been able to find the target against the likes of Marseille, Lyon, Nice and champions Paris Saint-Germain.
The former Sochaux striker is also reported to be attracting attention from Villarreal after a stunning campaign with Angers.
Football Insider verdict
Looking at Ekambi’s stats for this season, there’s no reason why teams in the Premier League wouldn’t want him. For a team expected to battle against relegation from Ligue 1, he has been prolific and showed that he has the ability to leave a mark on the real heavyweights of French football. Ekambi is 25-years-old and does not have a lot to show for in his career so £20million is a massive risk when that is considered. He could just be a one season wonder and unless the price-tag drops, Newcastle and Everton should avoid.
