Newcastle: Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali could lead summer exodus as Magpies warned ‘big sale’ necessary

Newcastle United have been warned that there could be another exodus on the cards at St James’ Park this summer.

Several players, including the likes of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, are linked with moves away from the club amid a turbulent season.

Last summer saw Alexander Isak force through a record £125million move to Liverpool, despite Newcastle’s efforts to keep him.

The fall-out at St James’ Park has been severe, with the Swede’s departure leaving a gaping hole in the Magpies’ attack.

Newcastle’s transfer chiefs will have several worries in the summer, with Eddie Howe’s future at the club also unclear.

Ben Jacobs provides Newcastle warning

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider in March that he thinks Gordon will sign for Liverpool this summer.

The Newcastle winger is under contract until 2030 but could well demand an exit after the World Cup, which he looks likely to travel with England for.

The 25-year-old has scored 17 goals across all competitions this season, with his most impressive performances coming in the Champions League.

Gordon has found the net against Barcelona, Bayer Leverkusen and scored a staggering four goals against Qarabag in February.

But the England international has prompted frustration in the Premier League, and the same can be said of many of his teammates.

Tonali, on the other hand, has enjoyed a superb season for Newcastle, but his future has been plunged into doubt after a series of quotes by his agent.

Elsewhere, too, Tino Livramento is reportedly attracting interest from Arsenal, and there are bound to be suitors for the likes of Will Osula and Bruno Guimaraes.

Speaking to talkSPORT on Thursday, Ben Jacobs said: “This summer, there could be another exodus. Newcastle fans won’t want to hear it, but Anthony Gordon has interest and could go.

“One of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes could depart. Tino Livramento has a lot of interest as well, and I still sense that Newcastle need a big sale if they don’t get European or Champions League football.”

Newcastle could be set for summer crisis

Decision-makers at St James’ Park are facing an incredibly treacherous summer transfer window.

Potential departures are littered throughout the squad, and a repeat of the Isak situation will want to be avoided at all costs.

The possible exit of Howe is also set to come into the mix, too, with Newcastle coming to the end of a disappointing season.

The Magpies are set for a string of decisions that they simply must get right, or risk undoing all of their good work under their new owners.
