‘Newcastle boosted in bid to agree cut-price Marc Geuhi deal’
Newcastle United have retained a strong interest in Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi and are planning to make a fresh move for his signature this summer.
That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the Magpies are hopeful of landing the 24-year-old on a cheaper deal.
The centre-back will have just one year remaining on his deal come June and the Eagles are now prepared to see him leave the club.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider that Palace have begun planning to replace Guehi as they accept he will leave at the end of the season.
That is despite rejecting a £70million offer from Tottenham in January – the same fee Newcastle saw Palace turn down last summer.
Now, the Magpies are preparing to reignite their interest as the addition of a new centre-back remains among their top priorities ahead of the summer window.

Newcastle join Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea in Marc Guehi race
Eddie Howe’s side will face stiff competition for his signature as Football Insider revealed Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in Guehi alongside Chelsea and Tottenham.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that their long-standing interest in the England defender has only strengthened over the course of the season.
“Newcastle are still interested in Marc Guehi,” he told Football Insider.
“They want to sign a centre-back and he is the outstanding candidate for them.
“Everybody knows how keen on him they were last year, and he’s done nothing in the time since to put off potential suitors.
“He’s been brilliant for Crystal Palace and for England, and if anything his stock has gone up.
“Plus, he’s done himself a lot of favours by keeping his head down and getting on with the job, he’s never been distracted by all of the talk about his future.
“He’s not going to cost the £70million Palace turned down last year because of his contract situation.
“So for Newcastle, that will be a boost to their chances to get it done on a cheaper deal.
“That doesn’t mean he’ll be cheap by any means, but it won’t be that same £70million fee.“

Eddie Howe dealt new blow after Nico Schlotterbeck latest
As Newcastle continue their efforts to sign a new centre-back this summer, they have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Nico Schlotterbeck.
Football Insider revealed on 2 May that Schlotterbeck is in advanced talks with Borussia Dortmund over a new contract as they are keen to secure his long-term future.
The German defender is currently sidelined with an injury and is not expected to return to action until October, which has further complicated any potential move away.
Instead, the Magpies will turn their attention towards alternative options as Football Insider revealed Newcastle are interested in Bournemouth star Dean Huijsen.
