Newcastle ‘confident’ of agreeing Alexander Isak deal – sources

Newcastle are “confident” of tying Alexander Isak down to a new contract but are likely to have to include a release clause to secure an agreement, sources have told Football Insider.

Any release clause in the 24-year-old’s new deal will likely be similar to that of teammate Bruno Guimaraes, which could only be triggered by a rival at a specific time.

The Brazilian midfielder had a £100million release clause in his contract that had to be activated before midnight, June 24th. He ended up staying as no club made an offer of that sun,

Talks on a new deal between Isak and Newcastle started in the summer about replacing his current contract, which is due to expire in June 2028.

The north-east giants are hopeful of reaching an agreement with one of their prize assets but are expected to have to cede some ground over the terms of the deal.

Newcastle hoping to tie Alexander Isak down but will have to bow to the star’s demands

The Sweden international has been a revelation at the Tyneside club since moving from Spanish club Real Sociedad.

Averaging just over a goal every other game, only Man City’s Erling Haaland and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer beat his tally of 21 goals last season. In all competitions for Newcastle, his 71 matches have yielded 36 goals and six assists.

Isak scored his first goal of the 2024-25 season against Tottenham, securing the 2-1 win over their top-four rivals with a 78th-minute tap-in.

He kept up his fine scoring form during the international break, bagging three goals for Sweden in their two UEFA Nations League wins over Azerbaijan and Estonia.

Newcastle United fans are now calling for the club to sign Viktor Gyokeres after his link-up with Alexander Isak while on international duty.
