‘Newcastle could be forced by PSR to sell rising star just like Elliot Anderson’
Lewis Miley could leave Newcastle United in similar circumstances to Elliot Anderson as PSR worries threaten to bite at St. James’ Park.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson said that PSR constraints could force Newcastle to sell Miley as they try to balance the books.
Newcastle are right on the borderline of a PSR breach despite qualifying for the Champions League next season, and Miley’s status as an academy product would generate a 100 per cent profit if he were sold.
Anderson was sold to Nottingham Forest in a £35million deal 12 months ago and has gone from strength to strength since, and Robinson told Football Insider that Miley could follow a similar path this summer.
Conor Gallagher has been heavily linked with a return to the Premier League with Newcastle in the hunt to sign him, but Robinson questioned if Miley could now be sold to fund his expected £50m transfer fee.
Robinson told Football Insider that the prospect of selling Miley to buy Gallagher will be Eddie Howe‘s decision to make, but argued that the 19-year-old’s potential exit must come with a buy-back clause.

Miley exit to open door for Gallagher transfer at Newcastle
Robinson previously told Football Insider that he “hates” the fact that PSR has forced Newcastle into a corner with Miley, arguing that the so-called richest club in the world shouldn’t have such constraints.
Speaking on the latest Inside Track, he stated that Newcastle’s interest in Gallagher could spell the end for Miley’s time at St. James’ Park, just as another academy product in Anderson was sold last summer.
“The thing with Newcastle – and the same with anybody else – it’s juggling the FFP and PSR”, Robinson told Football Insider.
“At the same time Lewis Miley is linked with potentially leaving, they’re also linked with Conor Gallagher – he’s linked with a move back to the Premier League and Newcastle [are] one of his potential suitors.
“Lewis Miley may not be ready to play in the Champions League week-in and week-out, or the Premier League week-in and week-out. It’s an interesting situation to watch.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if Lewis Miley left. You look at the way Elliot Anderson left for Forest – I’m sure he’s a player that Eddie Howe would’ve loved to have kept.
“If [Miley] is to leave, it would be a sale with a buy-back clause or first refusal on it.”

Miley move could happen soon after Anderson sets example
Any incoming midfielders at St. James’ this summer will struggle to displace Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton in Howe’s starting XI next season, and Miley made just 19 appearances last term.
Last summer’s switch to Forest has proven to be the making of Anderson, who was dubbed as the “Geordie Maradona” for his displays in England’s Under-21 Euros success over Germany last month.
Miley is already attracting interest from other clubs and could follow in the footsteps of both Anderson and Sean Longstaff this summer, with Gallagher‘s potential arrival likely to bring his Newcastle career to an end for the forseeable future.
