‘Newcastle could break the bank’ to complete Jarrod Bowen deal
Newcastle United would have to “break the bank” to sign Jarrod Bowen as West Ham will not entertain talks about his potential departure.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England and Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who remains well-connected within the game, insisted that the deal is not on the cards due to their financial situation.
He speculated that any deal for Bowen would be worth upwards of the £100million fee Bayern Munich spent on Harry Kane in the summer of 2023.
Newcastle have struggled to stay within the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules and were forced to sell players on 30 June in a last-ditch attempt to avoid a breach.
As a result, they will be restricted in their January spending as concerns have lingered about the potential threat of a breach and subsequent points deduction.
Meanwhile, West Ham are determined to keep Bowen at the club and will demand a “huge” fee to even consider his potential exit.
The winger also signed a new deal in 2023 which extended his stay at the London Stadium until 2030, further complicating the chances of a deal.
Jarrod Bowen unlikely to join Newcastle after new West Ham twist
Newcastle have been targeting a new right-sided forward as a matter of priority and are expected to explore deals in January, but it is unlikely Bowen will be among them.
Robinson explained that, while he would be an excellent addition to Eddie Howe’s side, the Magpies’ financial situation and West Ham’s stance have made the deal nothing more than speculation.
“I think he would fit in anywhere,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s a top-quality player and he’s proven that he can play anywhere in that final third, on the wing, behind the striker, and even as a number nine.
“It’s all speculation at this stage in terms of the links to Newcastle.
“If he becomes available and Newcastle are at the table, they’ll have to break the bank for him.
“With Newcastle’s financial situation with FFP and PSR, it was only six months ago we were talking about them having to sell key players to balance the books.
“But if they want Jarrod Bowen, there’s absolutely no way West Ham are going to let him go.

“It would have to be a huge, huge deal, and Newcastle are not in the financial situation to be able to buy him because of the money involved.
“I can’t see him leaving West Ham unless it’s an absolutely ridiculous figure, probably even more than what Harry Kane left Tottenham for.”
